The
of Theorem
In 2003, while on vacation with his family, Joel Heifitz, one of
the founders of Theorem, was paralyzed in a swimming accident. While in the hospital, Joel met a man
named Bob Shea, who was also in the hospital suffering from paralysis as a result of Guillain Barre
Syndrome. The two became friends. Five years later, Bob introduced Joel to Ed Kane, who was
suffering from ALS. With one year left to live, Ed had a goal to try and get medical equipment into
the hands of those that could not afford it. Out of his wish and Ed’s Legacy, Devices 4 the Disabled
was born.
